The 2021 Non-Denominational Holiday Contest!

by | published Thursday, December 23, 2021

Once again we have passed through the longest night of the year and so it is time for our annual contest. More than ever we appreciate our Gaming Groups, which bring us together to connect with shared experiences and joy. This year’s Non-Denominational Puzzle is a tribute to those Groups–and the games we love.

The names of twenty-five boardgames (all at least five letters long) are hidden in the grid below either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, backwards as well as forwards:

For a printable copy of the grid you can click here.

After finding and circling the games, you must sort them into five non-overlapping Gaming Groups; each group of five will have something in common. As you start to piece things together you will find that some games might belong to more than one Group–but there is only one way to put all the games into five Groups of five.

Once you’ve found all the games and figured out the Groups, the unchosen letters read consecutively left-to-right and top-to-bottom will lead you to the name of one last game which is the final answer to the contest.

To enter the contest you must submit your Gaming Groups (with explanations of what each group has in common) along with the answer to the final riddle to dailyworkerplacement@gmail.com by Sunday, January 2 at 9 pm EST. One winner will be picked randomly from all the correct entries and will win a copy of the classic Rummy-O (also known as Rummikub). Unfortunately, because of shipping costs, this means that the winner can only be a resident of North America–but you can still enter for the glory of the hunt.

Happy solving!
