2020 Halfway Day Contest

by | published Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Oh no! My Kallax collapsed! My collection is in a mess! I tried to put everything back in their proper boxes, but nine of my games are missing a piece each!

Nine of the answers to this cryptic crossword are the names of boardgames. Their clues consist only of wordplay—no definition—and you have to leave one letter out in order to fit them into the grid (you have to figure out which one; it will always be deducible from the words it crosses).

Once you have finished, take the nine letters you have omitted and rearrange them into the name of another well-known game, which along with the finished grid is the solution to the puzzle.

For a downloadable PDF of the puzzle, click here.

Email your answers to dailyworkerplacement@gmail.com. Deadline for solutions is 12 am Wednesday, July 8. One correct answer drawn at random will win a copy of Hadara, one of 2019’s best games. Unfortunately, because of the cost of shipping, we can only send it to a North American address.

If you’re new to the world of cryptic crosswords there’s a great introduction here. Happy solving!
